Guidance Counselor (Anticipated)Location: Sayville High SchoolPosition: Guidance Counselor (Probationary)Salary: As per STA contract Start Date: September 1, 2024 Sayville School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced High School Counselor with a strong background in college and career counseling at the high school level to join our Guidance Department. The ideal candidate will have high school experience, with college/career counseling and transition coordination for post-secondary outcomes. The counselor will also provide counseling support for students with diverse backgrounds, learning modalities, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and work closely with the office of Pupil Personnel Services. Responsibilities:• Supports students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices• Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations• Provides students and families with admissions, scholarship and identifying employment opportunities information• Establishes and maintains strong relationships with parents• Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services• Researches educational and career opportunities, and coordinates with teachers, college and university personnel, resource specialists, and business/community organizations for the purpose of providing information and making recommendations• Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities• Implements academic and emotional guidance supports to high school students• Works closely with PPS team and Special Education Department• Teams with students in developing educational and career goals• Coordinates transition services for students• Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success• NYS School Counselor Certification is required.
