Proficiency with computer databases and accounting programs is essential. The successful candidate will possess the skills to exercise independent judgment while performing their duties under the supervision of the School Business Administrator.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures and the ability to apply such knowledge to accounting transactions; very good knowledge of the general principles of public finance administration, including budgeting and financial reporting; very good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word software programs; ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of some complexity; ability to perform detailed work including written or numeric data and to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately; ability to follow complex oral and written instructions. Experience in capital project and grants finance reporting. RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs accounting for all funds utilizing the NYS municipal accounting systemMaintains the general ledger, cash receipts and cash disbursements for all fundsOversees accounts payable, accounts receivable and performs payroll accountingCompletes a monthly trial balance and treasurer’s report for board meetingsPrepares monthly cash flow reports – actual vs. projectedGathers information for official statements for all the district’s notes and bond issuesEstablishes and maintains a fixed asset accounting systemAssists the internal auditors with the annual risk assessment review and auditAssists the external auditors with the annual financial statement auditAssists with all other NYS and regulatory auditsPrepares annual financial report (ST3) and supplemental schedulesPrepares the School Level Finance Survey (SLFS)Completes surveys and applications for NYS and Federal GrantsComplete IDEA Maintenance of Effort (MOE)Submits monthly breakfast and lunch claimsPrepares quarterly and annual sales tax returnsAssists with some aspects of budget preparationAll other duties as assigned by the School Business AdministratorQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of 2 years of college educationMajor in a business-related field preferredThree to five years of experience in maintaining or auditing the financial records and accounting systems within a school or municipality preferred
