Position Title: School Nurse - (.3 FTE) Part Time Anticipated Aligned to: Saugerties Teachers’ AssociationImmediately Responsible to: Director of Pupil Services, Building PrincipalMinimum Qualifications:Required: Must be a certified NYS Registered NurseCPR/AEDFirst AidHeads Up (Concussion Management certification)Philosophical compatibility with the stated mission and goals of the School DistrictPreferred: Successful experience in CPSE settingSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Job Summary or Functions:Facilitating student success by providing students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with individually-tailored advice and consultation to overcome health, personal, emotional, familial, and/or social issues. The candidate will also support student IEP or Section 504 needs. Specific Responsibilities:Communicate to faculty, staff, cafeteria personnel and bus drivers; individual students’ health concerns including allergies. Facilitate New York State mandated immunization including medical yearly exemptions.Advise administration on exclusion and readmission of students with immunization needs.Advise administration on exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious diseases. Facilitate New York State mandated screening programs for yearly school physicals for new entrants and grades Pre-K or K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 and sports participants.Review medical health history (for each sport season) and sport clearance documentation for student athletes for fall, winter, and spring seasons. Facilitate New York State mandated vision screening programs for color, distance and near vision acuity for all new entrants and grades Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11. Facilitate New York State mandated hearing screening programs for all new entrants and in grades Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. Facilitate New York State mandated scoliosis screening programs for grades 5 and 7 for girls and grade 9 for boys. Initiate and document health surveillance programs which could include student immunizations yearly and BMI (basal metabolic index) every other year as required, entering data in the New York State Health Commerce System, in a timely manner, as determined by state mandate.Compile and continuously update student cumulative health records in hard copy as well as electronic records.Initiate concussion management program following New York State Education Department protocol.Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by Supervisors.Evaluation: The evaluation of the person filling this position is conducted by a certified administrator according to the current Bargaining Agreement.
