Position: Department Chairperson (Internal) - 2 Year Term Jr./Sr. High School Department Chairs - Art, Business, English, Family Consumer Science (FACS), Industrial Arts (Technology), Language, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science/Health, Social Studies, Special Education.Qualifications: State Certification as a Teacher in the content area applying for.Effective: July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2026 (Two-Year Appointment)Salary: Per Saugerties Teachers' Association ContractApply Online Only: https://www.saugerties.k12.ny.us/departments/human-resources/apply-for-a-positionPosition FunctionWorks with the Principal and Deputy Superintendent to oversee a content area and serve as an instructional leader in the development, coordination and evaluation of the District's curriculum and educational programs in the content area.Essential Functions:Disseminate and examine assessment data with colleagues to inform instruction and make curriculum decisions.Unify and provide recommendations for departmental and district policies (such as course outlines, pacing plans, common assessments, etc).Support District Goals.Provides direction and coordination to ensure comprehensive and sequential curriculum and instruction and development plans in the content area.Helps coordinate and support the teaching of the content area in the Jr./Sr. High School.Prepares, monitors and implements individual department plans and activities, including leading department staff meetings.Assists in the development of common curriculum and common assessments in the content area.Organizes and coordinates the content area curriculum development activities, including preparation of curriculum guides, resource units and courses of study. Provides for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development, cooperation with building administrators.Gives input to and/or attends Professional Practice Committee meetings.Supports the introduction and utilization of innovative teaching materials and techniques in line with best educational practices.Organizes and conducts staff meetings for informational, curriculum development and training purposes. Develops department meeting agendas and provides minutes to department and building principals.Assists in planning, compiling and managing the content area district budget.Coordinates the selection, inventory and ordering of texts, teaching aids, software, supplies and equipment.Assists in the selection of teaching staff in the content area.Makes recommendations regarding the placement and educational plans of students who are not meeting achievement levels or are in need of remedial instruction.Keeps current of developments in the content area and provides staff members with assistance and instructional material as appropriate.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
