Position: Literacy Coach (Probationary- Remedial Reading Tenure Area)School: District WideEffective: September 2023 (possibly sooner) Salary: As Per the Saugerties Teachers AssociationImmediately Responsible to: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and AssessmentQualifications: NYSED Certified Literacy/Reading Specialist 5+ years elementary classroom experience Deep knowledge of reading, writing, and literacy development Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching. Experience with Pioneer Valley, Into Reading, Wilson Fundations, and Units of Study Writing a plus Experience using data to drive instructional Experience developing curriculum and assessments Experience facilitating adult learning through cognitive coaching and use of a coaching cycle Experience facilitating and designing professional learning for teachersJob Description:The Literacy Coach will support all instructional staff in the implementation of the district literacy plan and programs. The Coach will work directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions. Coaches will also work with staff to develop curriculum and common assessments. Responsibilities: Work with educators to identify issues with students or curriculum, set goals, and solve problems Collaborate with educators and school administrators to develop curriculum and lesson plans Create teaching material for educators Lead and/or participate in study groups alongside educators Attend professional development conferences and workshops Help teachers conduct student assessments and analyze student work Counsel students to help them discover their strengths and to set goals Interpret data after student or teacher assessments have been conducted Design and lead professional development for district staff Model lessons or co-teach with teachers to build capacity in staf Performs such additional duties as may be delegated by the Superintendent of SchoolsEvaluationThe Instructional Coach will be evaluated yearly based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the District’s APPR Plan.
