Position: Assistant Principal / Athletic DirectorSchool: Jr. / Sr. High School Effective: July 1, 2023Classification: Administrative - 12 Months Salary: Administrative and Supervisory Personnel Association Immediately Responsible to: Building Leader(s) Minimum Qualifications: Required: Must possess a valid NYS Certification as a School Building Leader Philosophy aligned with District's stated Mission and Goals Preferred: NYS Certification in Physical Education Ability to speak a second language Proven Administrative Experience Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Functions: Works as an active member of the administrative team to implement the district-wide goals, curriculum goals and common core standards. Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and program of instruction. Develops and administers school programs consistent with school district goals and mission. Develops programs to meet our students' social emotional needs. Collaborates with staff and administration to assist truant students. Works with instructional staff to understand and utilize data to improve instruction. Enforces school district policies, state laws and State Education Department guidelines. Conducts and/or coordinates meetings and supervises other functions in the coordination of staff personnel. Meetings include, but not limited to: department meetings, full faculty meetings, team meetings, and pupil service team meetings. Receives and reviews complaints or problems concerning individual pupils, staff, or the operation of the school. Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning. Supervises extracurricular events such as concerts, awards assemblies, open house, parent teacher conferences, drama productions, dances, sporting events, etc. Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Organizes and manages the Athletic budget and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies. Supervise the implementation of schedules (game and practice) of interscholastic athletic events in conjunction with the Building Level Administrators, Transportation and Facilities. Supervise, schedules, and provides training for event chaperones Recruit and recommend coaches. Analyze needs and develop programs regarding in-service training for coaches. Observe and evaluate coaches. Ensure coaches maintain necessary certifications and arrange for training when necessary. Oversee Athletic Trainer. Work in conjunction with the Business Office in the development of budgetary needs and in the preparation of equipment lists for bid and shall maintain an accounting of athletic equipment throughout the District. Represent the school district in professional organizations at the local, regional and state levels. Record, maintain and keep current all recordkeeping as it relates to the athletic rosters, eligibility, etc. Establish and facilitate an athletic council comprised of student-athletes to foster sportsmanship, mentoring for athletes, community service, and gaining feedback to enhance programming. Be responsible for the planning and implementation of an annual Varsity Athletic Awards Ceremony. Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. Evaluation:The evaluation of the person filling this position is conducted by a certified administrator according to the current Bargaining Agreement.
