Applicants should possess a strong background in school counseling and have experience working with elementary students, teachers, and parents. Candidates should possess a Masters degree in school counseling or related field and NY State certification as a school guidance counselor.Candidates should have knowledge and experience assisting elementary students in the following areas:Academic supportCareer explorationSelf-awareness and self-esteemCharacter development and bullying preventionProblem-solving and conflict resolution skillsGoal setting and decision-makingMTSSAdditional requirements include:Build positive relationships with families, students, and staffDeliver whole-class SEL lessons to grades K-5Facilitate individual and small-group counseling sessionsCollaborate effectively with the district-wide Guidance DepartmentManage crisis situations with professional skillIdentify the need for specialized interventionsChair annual 504 meetings by applying a deep understanding of the 504 processCandidates should be flexible, caring, and relate well with young children.
