Performs professional accounting work at an advanced level in planning and supervising accounting activities; performs related duties as required.Under the general direction of the School District Business Administrator or the Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations, the duties involve complex professional accounting work with responsibility for financial account-keeping functions. Work is performed under general supervision and calls for considerable exercise of independent judgment in setting up and handling all accounting records for a large school district.Assumes full responsibility for school district fiscal accounting systems and proceduresProvide guidance to administrators regarding proper budgeting and accounting practices.Establish and maintain adequate internal controls and a uniform system of accounts in compliance with state and federal requirements.Review and evaluate accounting operations and fiscal procedures; recommend and implement improved methods, systems, and the use of automation or electronic data processing as needed.Conduct special studies and prepare special reports as requested by district administration.Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing and posting journal entries to ensure accurate financial statements, ensure compliance with GAAP and district accounting standards.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with Major coursework in accounting.Minimum of two years of professional accounting experience, preferably in governmental or school accounting.CPA preferred but not required.Proficient with Finance Manager's NVision system preferred but not required.
