One-to-One Teacher Aide (2 openings) Rome City School District – Gansevoort Elementary School The Rome City School District is looking for a caring and dependable individual to join our team as a one-to-one Teacher Aide at Gansevoort Elementary School. In this role, you will provide individualized support to a student with special needs, while also assisting teachers and administrators with various classroom and non-instructional tasks. Your support will help foster a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment tailored to students who require additional academic and behavioral support. As a Teacher Aide, you will play a key role in helping students successfully navigate the school day by offering consistent guidance, supervision, and encouragement. Position Overview & Compensation Schedule: 10-month position, 6 hours per day. Starting Salary: $18.50 per hour + competitive benefits package. Growth Opportunity: Teacher Aides may choose to obtain their Teacher Assistant certification to qualify for a higher rate of pay within the district. Qualified candidates should possess a high school diploma/GED and have a strong ability to build supportive relationships with students and the flexibility to meet individual needs in a school setting. Experience in education or working with children is a plus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: Graduation from high school, supplemented by additional experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training. School District Non-Competitive Classification TEACHER AIDE GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists school teachers and administrators in the performance of teaching and non-teaching functions by performing varied operational duties associated with the teaching process within the building setting. Does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This title is employed for positions which are created for the main purpose of relieving school personnel, assisting teachers and administrators of that part of their duties, which while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Assists with daily attendance; Assists with general library functions; Performs simple clerical duties – may include phone calls; Oversees students in non-structured periods (i.e., breakfast, lunch, playground, bus duty, before and after school); Supervises in-school suspension, time-out and lunch detention. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good general intelligence; Ability to establish good relationships with children and others; Familiarity with classroom and/or library routine; Good background or knowledge in specific field where specialized duties are involved; Above average clerical aptitude; Resourcefulness in conducting above described activities indirectly related to the teaching process and/or library process; Neat personal appearance; Ability to maintain discipline; Exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment; Good physical condition.
