The Rome City School District is seeking a student-centered Special Education/Resource Teacher to support high school students with diverse learning needs, plus a team taught art class. The ideal candidate will provide academic and organizational support to students while collaborating closely with general education art teachers to foster an inclusive, engaging, and accessible learning environment that promotes creativity, independence, and academic success for all learners. Key Responsibilities: Provide resource room and special education support services to high school students in accordance with IEP goals and New York State regulations. Collaborate with general education Art teachers to deliver differentiated, team taught instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and student learning needs. Adapt and modify instructional materials, projects, assignments, and assessments to support students with disabilities across academic settings. Support students in developing executive functioning, organization, study skills, self-advocacy, and graduation readiness skills. Assist students in developing artistic skills, creative expression, and problem-solving abilities through a variety of media and techniques within the co-taught art setting. Implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies to ensure meaningful participation and access to curriculum. Create a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, independence, and positive behavior. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, counselors, and support staff to ensure student success in inclusive settings. Monitor and document student progress through data collection, formative assessments, and IEP goal tracking. Maintain ongoing communication with families, case managers, and school personnel to support student achievement. Participate in IEP meetings, annual reviews, collaborative planning sessions, and professional development opportunities. Qualifications: Must hold a valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12). Experience providing resource room or academic intervention support at the secondary level preferred. Knowledge of differentiated instruction, IEP implementation, executive functioning support strategies, and behavior management techniques. Ability to support and adapt studio-based, project-driven learning for diverse learners. Strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
