The Rome City School District is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Life Science/Biology Teacher to provide engaging, standards-based science instruction at Rome Free Academy, including instruction within a 15:1 special class setting. The ideal candidate will possess strong Biology content knowledge, a commitment to supporting diverse learners, and the ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that promotes student achievement, Regents readiness, and post-secondary success. Candidates with dual certification in Students with Disabilities are strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver differentiated Life Science/Biology instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Regents expectations. Provide instruction in both general education and 15:1 classroom settings, supporting students with varying academic and learning needs. Adapt curriculum, laboratory activities, and assessments to meet a wide range of student abilities and learning styles. Incorporate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences to promote understanding of biological concepts such as cellular processes, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human body systems. Implement accommodations, modifications, and instructional supports to ensure equitable access to curriculum and assessments. Prepare students for the Regents Examination in Living Environment/Biology through targeted instruction and data-informed practices. Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to support student success across instructional settings. Monitor and document student progress through formative assessments and ongoing data collection. Maintain ongoing communication with families, counselors, administrators, and school personnel to support student achievement. Participate in collaborative planning, department meetings, and professional development opportunities. Foster a positive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports academic growth and student well-being. Qualifications: Must hold valid New York State Certification in Biology (Grades 7–12) or Life Science: Biology. Dual certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7–12) preferred. Experience working with diverse learners and students with disabilities is preferred. Knowledge of differentiated instruction, classroom management strategies, and Regents-level curriculum. Ability to adapt instruction and laboratory experiences to support varied learning needs. Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
