The Rome City School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Social Studies educator to teach students in grades 7–8. We are looking for an individual who is committed to fostering historical thinking, civic responsibility, and global awareness in early adolescents, while supporting a wide range of learners in an inclusive and engaging classroom environment. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, engaging lessons aligned to the New York State Social Studies Framework for grades 7–8 (U.S. History & Government). Design inquiry-based instruction that encourages questioning, analysis, and evidence-based reasoning. Incorporate diverse perspectives and culturally responsive teaching practices. Use primary and secondary sources to build historical thinking and critical analysis skills. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school learners, including students with disabilities and English language learners. Integrate literacy strategies, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening, to support disciplinary learning. Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods and adjust instruction accordingly. Establish a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and student engagement. Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. Qualifications: Must hold a valid New York State Social Studies Certification (7-12). Strong classroom management and communication skills.
