ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) TeacherThe Rome City School District is seeking a passionate, culturally responsive, and student-centered ESOL educator to support multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency and achieving academic success. Our student body represents 21 languages, with 60% of our students facing economic challenges. We are dedicated to creating a collaborative and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.Key Responsibilities:Provide direct English language instruction aligned with NYS Next Generation Learning Standards and NYS ENL regulations (CR Part 154).Develop and implement standards-based lessons that promote growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.Differentiate instruction based on students’ English language proficiency levels (Entering, Emerging, Transitioning, Expanding, Commanding).Collaborate with classroom teachers to support integrated ENL services and ensure access to grade-level curriculum.Utilize culturally responsive teaching practices to affirm students’ linguistic and cultural identities.Administer and interpret language proficiency data (including NYSESLAT and diagnostic assessments) to inform instruction.Monitor and document student progress; maintain compliance with state-mandated ENL service requirements.Communicate regularly with families, including multilingual communication as needed, to support student success.Support students’ social-emotional adjustment, acculturation, and academic confidence.Participate in CSE/504 meetings when appropriate to advocate for multilingual learners.Qualifications:Valid New York State Teaching Certification in ESOL (All Grades).Knowledge of NYS ENL regulations and language acquisition theory.Experience working with multilingual learners in a K–12 setting is preferred.Strong collaboration and co-teaching skills.Ability to use data to drive language instruction and monitor student growth.Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy.How to Apply:Please submit your resume, cover letter outlining your experience and teaching philosophy, 3 letters of recommendations, official college transcripts, and a copy of your New York State certification/TEACH certification page.
