Special Education Teacher - (Leave Replacement Substitute)Substitute Teacher – Job DescriptionThe Rome City School District is seeking a certified Substitute Special Education Teacher to provide instructional continuity for 12+ weeks in a 15:1:1 classroom at John Joy Elementary School.Position Summary:The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for delivering specially designed instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), implementing behavioral and academic supports, and maintaining compliance with all special education regulations. The substitute teacher will assume full instructional and case management responsibilities during the assignment period.Key Responsibilities:Deliver individualized and small-group instruction aligned with IEP goals in a 15:1:1 classroom setting.Read, interpret, implement, and update student IEPs to ensure compliance with mandated services and accommodations.Develop, implement, and maintain daily and long-term lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and student needs.Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of academic, behavioral, and service-related data.Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and building staff to support student success.Implement behavior intervention plans and classroom management strategies consistently.Participate in IEP meetings, parent communication, and team consultations as needed.Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.Comply with all district policies, special education regulations, and confidentiality requirements.Qualifications:Valid NYS valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities.Experience working with elementary students with disabilities is preferred.Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance requirements.Strong classroom management and communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families
