The Rockville Centre UFSD is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of: Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Highly Competitive Salary Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications Start Date: July 1, 2026 12-month Position Qualifications: NYS SDA/SBA Certification or NYS SDBL Certification Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the areas of public school finance, budget development and management of business office operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations is a cabinet level position responsible for developing and promoting business practices which are both fiscally sound and allow for the enhancement of educational opportunities for students. Responsibilities include the following: • Lead the development, presentation, and administration of the District’s annual budget (approximately $141 million), including long-range financial planning and forecasting. • Provide strategic oversight of all operational areas, including facilities, maintenance, transportation, and food services, across five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. • Direct all business office functions, including payroll, accounting, purchasing, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, investments, borrowing, risk management, insurance, and employee benefits. • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the timely preparation and submission of required financial and state reports. • Oversee all grant-related financial activities, including budget development, monitoring, and reporting for federal, state, and local grants. • Collaborate with the Claims Auditor, Internal Auditor, External Auditor, and governmental agencies to safeguard District assets, strengthen internal controls, and implement corrective actions as needed. • Serve as a key member of the District’s leadership team in collective bargaining, including financial analysis, contract negotiations, and resolution of labor grievances. • Prepare and present financial analyses, reports, and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education to support informed decision-making. • Respond to public information requests, including Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) inquiries, ensuring transparency and compliance. • Supervise and evaluate business and operations staff, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement. • Advise the Superintendent and Board on financial implications of strategic initiatives, capital projects, and policy decisions. • Oversee capital planning, including bond projects, facilities planning, and coordination with architects, engineers, and construction managers. • Manage relationships with external vendors, financial institutions, and service providers.
