Rockland BOCES has a vacancy for a Deputy Superintendent. CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS:New York State Certification SDA or SDLThree to five years’ experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Executive Director, Director or Central Office position in a school district and/or a BOCES.Experience managing the operations within a New York State BOCES preferredCertification, experience and background in Special Education preferred PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:This position reports directly to the District Superintendent.Maintains the day-to-day operations of all Rockland BOCES services.Oversees the work of the Assistant Superintendents, Executive Directors, Directors and Managerial staff.Assists in the preparation and administration of the BOCES’ budget.Keeps informed of, and interprets all laws, regulations, statutes, rules and policies affecting the divisions, consulting as necessary with BOCES counsel.Assists in the preparation of Board meetings and attends and presides over such other meetings as required.Prepares drafts of needed Board policies, administrative rules and status reports for the Board’s review.Conducts staff meetings as needed to interpret changes in Board policy or administrative rules, to discuss developments and to evaluate trends in education as they pertain to the areas of assigned responsibility.Communicates to the Board of Education and District Superintendent the requirements and needs of the BOCES as perceived by staff members or component districts.Prepares drafts of needed Board policies, administrative rules and status reports for the Board’s review.Remains abreast of developments and innovations in the field by reading current literature, attending professional society and association meetings and conferences and discussing developments and problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Initiates studies and research in various aspects of the work of the organization.Assists in the determination of the types of programs needed by the schools and makes appropriate recommendations.Prepares and submits reports to other administrative divisions in integrating and coordinating individual efforts into a unified program for the BOCES. Accepts from the Board and the District Superintendent any additional related responsibilities and assumes full responsibility for discharging them.
