Provides technical assistance and advice to school administrators to ensure that applicable health, safety and environmental regulations and procedures are followed; Performs various types of inspections such as asbestos, fire, safety, hazardous materials and structural assessments; Gives training sessions to appropriate school personnel on various matters related to health and safety such as bloodborne pathogens, asbestos awareness, safety, emergencies in the workplace, tool safety, etc.; Does sample testing on such items as indoor air quality, lead in water, asbestos, soil, hazardous materials, radon, etc.; Inventories and prepares chemicals for waste disposal including categorizing, labeling and packing; Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars and any other appropriate meetings regarding health and safety; Prepares and submits required reports to various federal, state and local agencies. Good knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to health and safety in schools; good knowledge of toxic substances and their potentially adverse effects; ability to read and interpret federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations regarding occupational health and safety; ability to make inspections, analyze findings and determine corrective action; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships; ability to work independently; computer literacy. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s degree or higher which included fifteen (15) credit hours in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field or a minimum of sixty (60) college credits which included fifteen (15) credit hours in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field.
