This is skilled nursing work which involves constant care, monitoring and supervision of one or more severely handicapped students in a school setting. The work includes administering medications and keeping activity records and is performed in accordance with guidelines provided by an appropriate physician. Does related work as required. Maintains constant contact with the student in order to recognize symptoms that lead to seizures, treat symptoms of respiratory distress, control infections, etc.; Administers medications and keeps records of same; Performs specialized feeding procedures; Accompanies student to and from school, to physician and/or to the hospital, as needed, during school hours; Prepares reports for Committee on Special Education and physician. Working knowledge of current routine nursing practice; skill in the application of practical nursing procedures and techniques; ability to understand and carry out specialized procedures as directed by a physician in accordance with the specific needs of the student involved; ability to maintain records and make reports. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and one (1) year of nursing experience caring for one or more individuals with special needs requiring constant monitoring and care.
