Public Information Specialist (1.0 FTE)Work Year: 12 monthsThis is responsible work in the field of public relations involving responsibility for writing, editing, and creating informational materials for public dissemination using various computer/software programs, with close administrative control of release content, timing and media.Write, edit proofread and fact check effective written content (printed and digital) on a daily basis that promotes and supports work across BOCES and school district departments and divisions.Strategize and facilitate design, production and distribution of publications and other promotional materials including ads, brochures, marketing collateral, newsletters, news, annual reports, budget materials, calendars, feature stories and videos, including story boarding and editing video to brand the agency.Under the direction of administrators, plan, create and deploy digital activities: website, online campaigns, email marketing, social media, e-newsletters and other digital content production that tells the stories of BOCES/School district programs, students and faculty.Maintain and enhance the design and content of the school's website, and assist in the evaluation and implementation of new and emerging web technologies.Provide media relations support as needed, including pitching and monitoring interviews and prepping school officials with talking points.Coordinate video and photography shoots, from pre-planning to final deliverables.Attend BOCES/school district events and report on these events to the public; assist with the development of overall communications strategy and key messaging of events to promote education awareness.Create and keep a diary of time lines for projects, track progress, review outcomes and ensure deadlines are met.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a closely related field and one (1) year of public relations, newspaper or other publication experience which regularly involved writing or editing; orPossession of an Associate's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a closely related field and three (3) years of public relations, newspaper or other publication experience which regularly involved writing or editing.
