There will be a full year mentoring / leering opportunity for a professional looking to advance his/her career as a school business official in our educationally progressive community of approximately 5,700 students with almost 1,200 employees serving students in grades pre-K through grade 12.POSITION - Assistant Superintendent for BusinessSTART DATE - July 1, 2026REPORTS TO - Experienced School Business Official Mentor and the Superintendent of SchoolsJOB SUMMARY - The Assistant Superintendent for Business administers the business and financial functions of the school district, and provides direction to administrators and staff with respect to business and financial affairs; prepares, makes recommendations, and handles financial matters for the Board of Education; represents school district with respect to school business for State, Federal, County and Town agencies, auditors, vendors, employee organizations, citizen groups such as PTO, and community residents; conducts long term financial planning. The Assistant Superintendent for Business supervises the management of the accounting, payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants. In addition, assists in the supervision and management of the food service, facilities and transportation departments.QUALIFICATIONS - Valid NYS SDA/SBS Certification or NYS SDBL CertificationCandidates must demonstrate experience as a successful and visible leader in the following areas:Public-school finance, budget development, and business office operationsFiscal planning, long-term financial planning, and capital improvement projectsPayroll, accounts payable, purchasing, benefits and inventory controlInvestments, insurance, debt services and district borrowingFiscal reporting, audits and negotiationsAbility to effectively manage time and fiscal resourcesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT - Central Administration - Cabinet level position12-month employeeTerms and Conditions determined by the Board of EducationESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - The Assistant Superintendent for Business will be responsible for learning and then developing and promoting practices which are both fiscally and educationally sound. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to learning the following.Establishing strategic and systematic processes to provide guidance and leadership to the Business and Finance Department staffDevelop, present and implement the annual budget including administering a budget control systemResponsible for learning all business affairs of the districtDistrict accounting functions, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, inventory control, estimates receipts and tax rate relating to proposed budget, investments, insurance, benefits, debt service and district borrowing, works with the district clerk on organizing and running the annual budget vote and bond votes.Actively supervise the following departments: Transportation, Facilities and Food ServicesResponsible for learning the provision of fiscal reports to State, Board of Education, Audit committees and auditorsProvide fiscal information about the District to the Board of Education, State and Federal agencies, BOCES, and the publicLearn to conduct long-term financial planning.
