ADMINISTRATIVE VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTHIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: GRADES 9-12Probationary PositionSTART DATE: August 1, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible. LOCATION: Paul D. Schreiber High School REPORTS TO: High School Principal GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Port Washington is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, secondary school leader who is passionate about fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking learning environment where all students and staff can thrive. The Assistant Principal will play a vital role in shaping the academic experience and the broader culture of the school, ensuring students have the support and opportunities to reach their full potential. QUALIFICATIONS:Valid NYS School Building Leader (SBL) or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) Certification.Minimum of five (5) years of highly effective experience as a teacher in a secondary school tenure area and possession of valid NYS teaching certification in that area required.Three (3) years of distinguished experience in a school building leadership position preferred.Bilingual ability in Spanish preferred.Experience creating a schoolwide master schedule preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of high school curriculum, instruction & assessment.Proven ability to work collaboratively with parents and staff to motivate students to achieve excellence.Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to:Overseeing the academic and behavioral development of the Class of 2027, serving as a point of contact for students, families, and staff.Completing performance observations of building and department personnel to guide professional growth.Participating in recruitment, selection, scheduling, and ongoing supervision of staff assigned to various programs.Assisting with the scheduling of students for required courses and courses of choice.Serving as a liaison to department chairs and instructional leaders, ensuring coherence in academic and social-emotional initiatives.Supporting compliance with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations governing the education of high school students, while advocating for policies and practices that promote equity and student success.Assisting with the annual evaluations of assigned program personnel, including teachers, other certificated staff members, and support staff personnel; developing plans for performance improvement, as needed.Performing all other responsibilities, duties, and projects assigned by the Principal or his/her designee(s).
