GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Assistant Director will assist the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services in the administration and supervision of the District’s comprehensive Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services programs, related services, and overall supervision of Special Education teachers, registered nurses, speech teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, Pupil Personnel Office support staff, and any additional employees who may be specifically assigned to the Assistant Superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS:Valid NYS School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) Certification required.Valid NYS Certification as a Special Education Teacher, or Speech Teacher, or School Psychologist required.Prior successful experience of at least five (5) years as a Special Education Teacher, or Speech Teacher, or School Psychologist required. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, planning and organizational skills required. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to:Ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, and local Laws and Regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.Serving as Chairperson for CPSE, CSE, and Section 504 Meetings.Maintaining positive and professional relationships with students, families, administrators, faculty, and community. Completing observations of program personnel.Evaluating the performance of program personnel, including special education teachers, speech teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, registered nurses, and developing plans for performance improvement, as needed.Providing instructional leadership for Special Education and Pupil Services programs.Participating in the recruitment, selection, scheduling, and ongoing supervision of staff assigned to the programs.Communicating and collaborating with Principals and other administrators regarding student programs and assignments for department personnel.Analyzing student and program data for State/Federal reporting and program evaluation purposes.All other responsibilities, duties and projects as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services or his/her designee(s).
