NOTICE OF POSITIONPOSITION:The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS25-26 VACANCYPOUGHKEEPSIE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICTQUALIFICATIONS:Qualified candidates must:Hold a Master’s degree in English/Literacy and/or Mathematics from an accredited college or university.Possess a valid New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certificate.Have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in K–12 education, including three (3) years as a District-level Administrator.Preferred: Prior central office administrative experience in an urban school district with a large, racially and economically diverse population.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to student-centered,transformational leadership. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, this leader will drive instructionalexcellence, curriculum innovation, professional learning, and accountability systems, whileensuring alignment with state frameworks and district priorities.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Instructional Leadership & CurriculumOversee all aspects of curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, and academic interventions.Lead the development of district-wide academic goals and monitor progress toward achievement.Promote high-quality instruction and continuous improvement across all schools and grade levels.Provide leadership and direct support to Early Learning, Elementary, and Secondary School Principals.Serve as a thought partner in reform initiatives and districtwide instructional planning.Ensure alignment of academic programming with state standards, board policy, and student achievement goals.Leadership Development & Capacity BuildingSupport school leaders in program implementation and improvement planning.Guide professional learning and staff development efforts district-wide.Build leadership capacity through coaching, mentoring, and targeted development opportunities.Coordinate staff evaluation, direction, and overall supervision in collaboration with Human Resources.Strategic Planning & OperationsAssist the Superintendent in daily district operations and strategic execution of the District’s Strategic Plan.Collaborate in short- and long-range planning related to academic programs, operations, and initiatives.Recommend new and revised policies that improve system efficiency and alignment with district goals.Help prepare and manage the academic portion of the district budget.Keep the Superintendent informed of emerging challenges, risks, and strategic opportunities.Governance, Policy & ComplianceEnsure implementation and evaluation of School Board policies and administrative procedural guidelines. Lead compliance efforts with all applicable federal and state laws, Board rules, and educational mandates.Direct the development, updating, and communication of district policies and procedures.Community & Stakeholder EngagementCommunicate academic priorities and results to schools, families, and community stakeholders.Represent the Superintendent at School Board meetings, community events, and other official functions as assigned.Build relationships with parents, external agencies, and community organizations to advance district initiatives.Make presentations and serve as a public advocate for the district’s equity and transformation goals.Additional DutiesPrepare reports and maintain required records.Assist in grant development and administration.Interpret the District’s educational philosophy and policy to staff and the broader community.Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.APPOINTMENT:Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.
