NOTICE OF POSITIONPOSITION:The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:MATH AND COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHERPOUGHKEEPSIE MIDDLE SCHOOLQUALIFICATIONS:NYS Certification, or be eligible for the NYS SOCE (Statement of Continued Eligibility) in Computer Science;In order to be eligible for SOCE, candidate must have previous experience teaching courses in technology or computer science for 1 year and will need to provide a written statement from previous district or supervisor to be submitted on the TEACH portal;Must have working knowledge of various online platforms including Adobe, Magma, Google Sketch Up, etc;Must be versed in various coding languages, including but not limited to Scratch, Python, HTML, Java, CSSDUTIES:The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Through student-centered effective and transformational leadership, school and community engagement, and an unrelenting pursuit to achieve greater school outcomes for children, the Poughkeepsie City Schools is focused on developing and growing greater access, equity, opportunity, and quality across PCSD. Candidates will teach courses in math, computer science, technology and other computer applications. Daily responsibilities will include:Plan and deliver student-centered lessons (in math and computer science) in regular classrooms, computer lab, maker space rooms;Introduce various online platforms to students for utilization of project-based learning;Work with various school and district partners to expose students to career and technical opportunities;Work collaboratively with various stakeholders to identify gaps in resources and provide recommendations for program needs;Collaborate with post-secondary partners to provide higher levels of college and career awareness in the field of technology and computer science;Work with school building staff and partners to schedule and participate in student field trips that are technology/computer science-themed;Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance in an online platform for future reference;Meet with technology team throughout the year to share best practices and discuss computer lab usage and other future technological needs as the program develops;Lead initiative for student participation in coding marathons and other various offsite computer science events (colleges, local computer companies, partnerships, etc).APPOINTMENT:Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.
