Poland CSD has an anticipated need for a nursing position with the responsibility for coordinating individual care and performing nursing services requiring substantial specialized judgment and skills for students PK-12. Duties involve responsibility for consulting with the school physician in providing medical services to school children, the key responsibilities noted, and performing related work as required to support school policy and school health and wellness. RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides emergency first aid services for the students.Enjoys working with children ages 4-18.Schedules and performs vision, hearing screenings, and scoliosis checks.Consults with parents and physicians and dispenses medications as prescribed by the physician.Assists students in the administration of inhalation therapy and insulin injections as prescribed.Assists the school physician in performing class screening and interscholastic athletics physical examinations.Submits accident reports on students and provides follow-up with parents/guardians.Participates as a member of management team of professionals addressing the issues of health and safety as they relate to students and staff.Assists the faculty and staff with the reporting of sexual and physical abuse cases.Serves on various student and management teams representing the medical profession with concerns for health and safety to include inspecting and maintaining the fixed AED equipment in the building and working with the athletic director to support needs for the district’s mobile units.Prepares the health office budget and maintains an accurate inventory of supplies.Keeps and maintains complete and accurate health records.Has knowledge of the nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices and skill in their application.Maintains professional learning to apply best nursing techniques and practices and awareness of school practices.Understand and follows technical oral and written instructions.Has aptitude to develop and maintain records and reports.Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with school employees, parents/guardians, and the general public.Exercises discretion when sharing information to school officials with a legitimate interest consistent with education records and FERPA. POSITION Qualifications:Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the New York State Education Department from a course approved by such Department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Nurse. Possession of the license at the time of appointment. Eligibility for and possession of a CPR Certification at the time of appointment.Selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with the SAVE Legislation of 2001.Applicants interested in serving in long-term position encouraged to apply to support end of year and summer enrollment needs until a probationary applicant can be secured.
