The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Director for Literacy and Library, K–12. This district-level role provides strategic leadership to lead and inspire a comprehensive, cutting-edge literacy program that empowers every student to read, write, research, and think critically.This Director will guide curriculum development, instructional practices, and professional learning to ensure coherent, standards-aligned, research-based literacy instruction across all grade levels while supporting innovative library media programs that foster inquiry, digital citizenship, and a lifelong love of reading. The position will supervise ELA teachers (K–6), reading interventionists, and Library Media Specialists (K–12). Responsibilities will also include collaborating with administrators and teacher leaders to strengthen MTSS structures and data-driven decision making, and champion instructional practices aligned with the New York State Next Generation ELA Learning Standards and the New York Inspires: Profile of a Graduate.The successful candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in the science of literacy, curriculum design, instructional supervision, and professional development. Additionally, the candidate will thrive in collaborative environments, embrace emerging tools such as AI to enhance teaching and learning, and be deeply committed to advancing equitable outcomes for all students.Qualifications:The successful candidate must:- Possess a valid New York State Administrative Certificate (School Administrator [SDA] or School District Leader [SDL]).- Possess a valid New York State teaching certification in English Language Arts, Literacy, Reading, or a closely related field.- Hold a master’s degree or advanced credential (e.g., micro credential or equivalent) in literacy science curriculum & instruction and instructional reading, or a comparable program.- Have a minimum of five (5) years of classroom experience, with demonstrated expertise in literacy development.- Have prior administrative experience.- Demonstrate knowledge of structured literacy, balanced literacy, and current research-based literacy frameworks.- Demonstrate working knowledge of standards-aligned development.- Have experience conducting classroom observations and evaluating instruction.- Have experience designing and facilitating professional development for educators.- Have experience working with AI tools.- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of the New York State literacy strands.- Have experience with MTSS frameworks and data-driven decision making, including universal screening, progress monitoring, and instructional interventions.
