Duties: Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates the need for a full-time Regional Science Coordinator within the Curriculum & Instructional Services department. Duties will include, but are not limited, to:Science Resource DevelopmentDevelop, and where appropriate, facilitate, regional science learning opportunities.Deliver in-district science workshops/trainings, and support science on-site consultants.Support BOCES staff with science education needs.Create new partnership and affiliations with science specialists and science service providers.Liaise with NYSED regarding science-related updates and share with the region.Science 21 LeadershipLead the continuous improvement of the curricular resources within the Science 21 program.Design program professional learning, recruit, train, and retain consultants to support the program, and develop partnerships for Science 21 training.Manage the development of the instructional materials portion of the program.Market the program and oversee the effective budgeting of program costs.CommunicationMaintain positive communication with districts, BOCES, outside organizations, and vendors as required by each program.Maintain relationships and memberships in relevant professional organizations to build capacity to provide cutting-edge curriculum.Attend professional conferences and NYSED subject-specific trainings when available.OtherAssist with implementation, development, and/or delivery of any ad hoc projects as assigned by the Director of the CIS Department.Qualifications: The successful candidate must have:A thorough understanding of the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards.Grades 5 – 9 and/or 7-12 certification in a NYS Science discipline.NYS School District Leader Certification.Minimum of five years of experience teaching science.Leadership experience preferred.Expertise using the Understanding by Design Framework, and curriculum development experience preferred.Experience with science research and field work preferred.Must possess outstanding facilitation, verbal communication, and writing skills, and experience providing effective professional development.Characteristics Desired: Must be organized and exhibit strong planning skills and follow-through.Must have strong interpersonal skills to work well with students, teachers, administrators, and support staff from a wide variety of schools and districts.
