Duties: The Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) serves as an itinerant provider for school districts through the Guidance & Child Study Center at PNW BOCES.The Teacher of the Deaf needs to:Create an inclusive classroom environment where students with hearing impairments feel valued and empowered.Regularly communicate with parents about their child's progress and challenges.Collaborate with Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEP’s.Conduct and interpret functional hearing assessments and complete written reports.Stay updated on current methodologies and technologies in deaf education.Provide direct instruction and mandated services.Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to modify the curriculum, ensuring materials are accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing students.Introduce and instruct in the use of hearing aids and other assistive devices. Foster communication skills through the use of sign language, oral, auditory, and written communication. Counsel students, parents, and teachers on the implications of hearing loss for speech, language, and academic achievement.Other duties as needed.Qualifications: NYS Certification: Teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Certification is required.- Knowledge and experience working with students classified with hearing loss and/or deafness- Experience with FM systems and cochlear implants is highly desirable.Characteristics Desired: Must have a positive, can-do attitude with commitment to the PNW BOCES core value of pathways to success for every student.
