Job Overview: Peru Central School District is seeking two (2) dedicated and NYS-certified school counselors to join our team. The successful candidates will primarily be responsible for providing Individualized Education Program (IEP) counseling for students in grades K-5 and 6-12, respectively. These positions are crucial in supporting the emotional, social, and academic development of our students.Anticipated Assignments: One (1) K-5 School Counselor - Elementary Assignment: Special EducationOne (1) 6-12 School Counselor - Middle/High School Assignment: Special EducationResponsibilities May Include: Develop and implement IEP counseling services tailored to individual student needs.Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to support student achievement.Conduct assessments and interpret test results to identify student needs.Provide individual and group counseling sessions.Address and support student mental health and behavioral issues.Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of IEPs.Maintain accurate records and documentation of student progress and counseling sessions.Offer crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.Stay current with best practices in school counseling and special education.Observe children during classroom instructionEvaluate strengths, weaknesses, problems, or special needsEnsure curriculum addresses both the academic and the developmental needs of studentsHelp students to understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problemsProvide the tools to enhance students' personal, behavioral, social, and academic growthProvide students with life skills to deal with various obstacles and situationsConsult and collaborate with parents, teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, medical professionals, and social workersConduct group and single counseling sessions and classroom guidance lessonsAssist in the routine management of the SchoolTool student management systemActively participate in crisis interventionParticipate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance program servicesOther duties per contract Qualifications:NYS certification in school counseling.Strong understanding of IEP processes and special education laws.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.Experience in K-5 or 6-12 educational settings is preferred.Additional Information:Competitive salary and benefits package.Professional development opportunities.Supportive work environment with a focus on student success.
