The individual will oversee all aspects of the athletic department (i.e. philosophy, parent and coaches meetings, sport schedules, busing, coach evaluation, purchasing of sports, equipment, etc.); develop, implement, and maintain all programming and curriculum for the Physical Education and Health Department; and conduct yearly evaluations of the Curriculum Coordinator, all faculty, Field Supervisors, and coaches under their responsibility. 1. QUALIFICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: Valid New York State Teaching Certificate in Physical Education and School District Administrator Certification Minimum of five years of coaching experience Prior administrative experience preferred The ability to communicate (orally and written) effectively with coaches, staff, pupils, parents, and the community The ability to work with diverse groups, including teachers, coaches and outside organizations as well as community representatives Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education accepts Reports to the Superintendent of Schools Able to forge a strong collaborative relationship with building administration and PMHS and PMS PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: PROGRAM Develop, maintain, and implement an athletic program at all levels Carry out policies and procedures established for the district programs as directed Provide leadership in maintaining a current and effective athletic program Conduct on-going review and evaluation of the athletic program and coaching staff, making appropriate recommendations for change Interpret athletic program to the administration, staff, and public Assist in the scheduling of all athletic activities, allowing for effective use of staff, facilities, and equipment Communicate with the Principals on matters of policy and procedure, as needed Collaborate with Principals and other administrative colleagues to develop and implement curriculum for Physical Education and Health Departments Evaluate Physical Education and Health teachers in accordance with the APPR plan Collaborate with Principals to proactively anticipate and resolve challenges in PE, Health, and Athletics Home contests : Arrange for the hiring and supervision of personnel necessary to supervise/administer athletic contests, including: police, timers, announcers, ticket sellers/takers, general staff supervision, officials and medical coverage Submit to the Assistant Superintendent of Business’ office all necessary payment forms for supervisory personnel and officials Arrange all details of visiting teams’ needs as appropriate Away contests : Arrange for all transportation to interscholastic contests Arrange practice schedules for each building, working around physical education Collate and coordinate all requests for athletic awards and keep student participation records Make routine reports to the Principals and Superintendent regarding program implementation In collaboration with school counselors, serve as a liaison to parents for all eligibility (academic, code of conduct) Coordinate and administer holiday, league and section tournaments when held at district sites PERSONNEL Coordinate posting of all positions within the appropriate time limit with Executive Director for HR & Leadership, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning, and Assistant Superintendent for Business Work with school administration to recruit, interview, and screen qualified persons to fill openings in the coaching staff according to Board of Education policy and contract with teachers association Cooperate with building administrators, coordinating and participating in professional supervision, evaluation, and development of the coaching staff Verify status of coaching/physical education certifications and compliance with certification requirements (AED, CPR, First Aid) Develop contracts with and supervise athletic trainers C. BUDGET Distribute and discuss budget request forms to all coaches and Event Supervisor annually Prepare and present annual athletic budgets Work with district administration for requisitions and the ordering of approved equipment, materials and supplies after budget adoption Review all requisitions and purchase orders Determine allocation for equipment, materials and supplies, transportation, and officials Maintain annual records, coaches’ requests, approvals, etc. D. ELIGIBILITY Arrange and verify proper physical examinations for all prospective student athletes Verify injury status regarding physical ability to participate according to BOE policy procedures Establish protocols to manage concussion return to play protocol for students/student athletes E. FACILITIES Maintain safe facilities and recommends areas for improvement F. SUPERVISION AT EVENTS Assign all supervision for regular and postseason contests Run training for all event supervisors Assign timers, announcers, ticket takers for regular and postseason contests Communicate with Director of Facilities regarding HOME contest set-up procedure Assign supervision as needed at away contests (i.e. spectator bus) Assign site chairs for tournaments and section play G. TRANSPORTATION: Coordinate all transportation H. OTHER: Attend monthly Athletic Director and Athletic Council meetings Conduct preseason meetings with coaches and close each season Create, update, and distribute Coaches Handbook Schedule athletic trainers Set days for physicals in conjunction with school physician and nurses Serve as liaison to the Booster Clubs for all athletic awards’ dinners or programs and committee meetings Keep updated historic files including but not limited to final rosters and score books per sport per year, eligibility list, coaches, team records, Section I champions Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned or may arise due to the nature of the position Actively participate in the District Wellness Committee Work collaboratively with community partners, especially Town Recreation Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Pelham Administrator’s Association.
