PEEKSKILL CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Math AIS Teacher (Grades 6-8) JOB DESCRIPTION PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The interventionist will work directly with students to accelerate mathematical understanding and achievement. Interventionists will also support classroom teachers to assist with full implementation and monitoring of the district’s adopted math program and interventions needed to improve student achievement. RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of STEAM and Building Principal QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Mathematics Certification is required. Strong math, curriculum, instruction and assessment skills required. Excellent skills in collaboration with colleagues and leading professional development ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily math instruction with small groups of students to provide acceleration in mathematical concepts and applications in collaboration with classroom teachers. Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students. Research and provide on-site support/professional development that will improve teaching and learning through a variety of approaches including, but not limited to, a wide range of innovative math practices, assessment of math skills, analysis and interpretation of assessment data, classroom demonstration lessons, meaningful use of available technologies, co-planning/co-teaching, etc. Collaboration with the Director of STEAM and building principal to facilitate grade level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student achievement and to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the instructional design of how the program meets the standards (alignment). Meet regularly with the Director of STEAM and Building Principal to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress towards established instructional goals. Prepare forms, records, and reports as directed. Candidate is highly collaborative & collegial Candidate will possess an understanding of NGLS, inquiry based practices and a willingness to do instructional rounds across grades and buildings Candidate will possess interdisciplinary and integrative knowledge of mathematics, and familiarity with data driven cycles of instruction.
