POSITION: Security Aide/s LOCATION: Secondary Level Building/s QUALIFICATIONS:* Candidates must be on the Westchester County Department of Human Resources/Civil Service Certification of Eligibles, must currently or have previously held the permanent title of “Security Aide” and be eligible for transfer, and/or reinstatement in accordance with New York State (NYS) Civil Service Law, or be eligible for provisional appointment in accordance with NYS Civil Service law/s following the District’s unsuccessful canvas of the current and active Certification of Eligibles;Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma;Satisfactory completion of an approved security guard training course as approved by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice in accordance with the Security Guard Act of 1992;Incumbents must maintain valid registration as a security guard throughout employment;Multilingual applicants encouraged to apply. *SUBSTITUTIONS:Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* at a recognized college or university, or its equivalent in course hours from an approved institution or office software manufacturer (i.e. Microsoft) may be substituted on a year for year basis for one (1) year of the general office/clerical experience and one (1) year of the specialized experience using computer applications as described above;Completion of 6 credits* in word processing coursework at a recognized college or university may be substituted for an additional one (1) year of specialized experience using computer applications as described above;All coursework must be verified by official transcript;Unless otherwise noted, only experience gained after attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience;Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education.as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check. REPORTS TO: Director of Security EXAMPLES OF WORK: Under the general supervision of the Director of Security an incumbent of this class is primarily responsible for providing general security for all building occupants and school district property;Security is maintained by constant foot patrol of assigned building(s), building perimeter and adjacent district parking lots;This position is usually an unarmed, non-uniformed position;Does related work as required;Patrols assigned building(s), building perimeter, and adjacent school district parking lots to prevent illegal trespass by unauthorized individuals;Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds;Informs superior of need to contact or involve local police department;Ascertains individual's business on school property and responds accordingly;May escort visitors to/from areas of building;Conducts security inspections of school facilities/sites;May assist in handling emergency disciplinary matters;May, under specifically defined and limited circumstances, use force;May prepare reports of incidents.May use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of security techniques;Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in establishing and maintaining building security;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school personnel and the general public;Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments;Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position;Initiative;Tact;Courtesy;Sound judgment;Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
