POSITION: Bilingual AIS Resource Specialist (Tenure Track Position) 0.6 ENL Teaching Assignment 0.4 Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) CERTIFICATION: NYS ESOL/TESOL certification requiredMultilingual applicants encouraged to apply QUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrated biliteracy and bilingualism in English and SpanishAbility to organize and prioritize daily work and projects and meet deadlinesKnowledge of second language acquisition, CRPart 154 requirements, program models, approaches, techniques for teaching and learning, reading and content to second language learners, appropriate assessments for program placement and monitoring student achievementExcellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with all staff in a school and provide on-going professional learning opportunities JOB GOAL:To serve as a liaison for the practitioners and the Director of Bilingual/ ENL/ World LanguageTo accelerate the learning or acquisition of second language acquisition in the academic content of math, language arts, science and social studies in order to meet classroom expectations, standardized assessments and graduation requirementsTo work collaboratively with other specialist and classroom teachers in making content accessible to students to meet the standardsTo provide leadership and support as the second language expert/specialist to all staff in a school DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement procedures of the Bilingual/ENL Program as prescribed in all manuals and in written communication such as notices and memos by the Bilingual/DL/ World Language Director in order to be in compliance with regulationsMaintain or be able to access appropriate and required documentation on every ELL student including NYSITELL, NYSESLAT and other data maintained by the departmentProvide practitioners and leaders about the types of accommodations, adaptations, special resources and classroom adjustments that are appropriate for individual ELL (English Language Learners) as well as FLEP (Former Limited English Proficient) studentsServe as the new language specialist to the school staff by maintaining a high knowledge base of the latest research, most effective practices in the field of new language acquisition, sheltered instruction, dual language instruction, etc.Provide on-going staff development and individualized staff coaching as necessary and/or requested by a teacher, building leader or the Bilingual/DL/ World Language Director in applying district instructional initiatives;Participate in department and district staff development opportunities that enhance the knowledge of the curriculum and educational strategies and issues in order to know how those relate to the ELL population and how to adapt and/or incorporate them into effective instruction for second language learnersParticipate in school level staff development, Professional Learning Communities and workshops both specific to second language learners and generic in order to be connected to and knowledgeable of the most current trends, practices and proceduresParticipate in on-going curriculum mapping and aligned to the NGLS standards by school and district;Meet with Director of Multilingual programs on a weekly basis LOCATION: Peekskill Middle School REPORTS TO: Director of Multilingual Learners / Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education START DATE: August 30, 2023 CLOSING DATE: June 19, 2023 SALARY: Terms of employment are in accordance with the Peekskill Faculty Association (PFA) Contract.
