POSITION: Bilingual AIS Resource Specialist (Tenure Track Position)CERTIFICATION: NYS ESOL/TESOL certification requiredMultilingual applicants encouraged to apply QUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrated biliteracy and bilingualism in English and SpanishAbility to organize and prioritize daily work and projects and meet deadlinesKnowledge of second language acquisition, CRPart 154 requirements, program models, approaches, techniques for teaching and learning, reading and content to second language learners, appropriate assessments for program placement and monitoring student achievementExcellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with all staff in a school and provide on-going professional learning opportunities JOB FUNCTIONS:To serve as a liaison for the practitioners and the Director of Dual Language/ENL.To maintain or be able to access appropriate data and required documentation on every ELL student including NYSITELL, NYSESLAT and other data maintained by department.To provide practitioners and leaders guidance about the types of accommodations, adaptations, special resources and classroom adjustments that are appropriate for individual ELL (English Language Learners) as well as FLEP (Former Limited English Proficient) students.Provide guidance on SIOP best practices to teachers and building leaders inclusive of research based literacy development, language acquisition , and best practices in alignment with NYS CR-PART 154 for support of English language learners.To provide on-going staff development and individualized staff coaching as necessary and/or requested by a teacher, building leader or the ENL/DL Director in applying district instructional initiatives.Strong knowledge of the American Reading Company curriculum to support teachers in content delivery to support Multilingual learners; Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies, support in the use of SCHOOLPACE and SCHOOLPACE CONNECT. Support in executing a consistent conferring model to improve student achievement and movement through complex text.Daily literacy instruction through a co teach approach with classroom teachers to provide acceleration in the readers and writers workshop in collaboration with classroom teachers.The candidate will possess an understanding of ARC, inquiry-based practices, and a willingness to do instructional rounds across grades and buildingsAssist parents and educators to access resources available at the school and district levels.Attend and/or facilitate Dual Language and ENL data meetings.Attend and/or facilitate Dual Language and ENL department meetings.Support ENL teachers as needed during the annual NYSESLAT testing window.Provide AIS services to students at Woodside and Uriah Hill.Support ENL teachers with establishing Writing MOSLs for ELLs in alignment with the NYSESLAT writing rubric and ARC writing criteria.Participate in school level staff development, Professional Learning Communities and workshops both specific to second language learners and generic in order to be connected to and knowledgeable of the most current trends, practices and procedures.Meet with Director of Multilingual programs on a weekly basis.Research and provide on-site support/professional development that will improve teaching and learning through a variety of approaches including, but not limited to, a wide range of innovative practices, analysis and interpretation of assessment data, classroom demonstration lessons, meaningful use of available technologies, co-planning/co-teaching, etc.Collaboration with the ASUP for Elementary, Director of ENL, and Building Principal to facilitate grade-level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student achievement and to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the instructional design of how the program meets the standards (alignment).Meet regularly with the ASUP for Elementary, Director of ENL/DL and Building Principal to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress towards established power goals. Prepare forms, records, and reports as directed. The candidate is highly collaborative & collegial.Other duties as assigned.
