POSITION: Office Assistant (Automated Systems) (Spanish Speaking) LOCATION: Woodside Elementary School Civil Service: This competitive position requires successful completion of the Westchester County Department of Human Resources Office Assistant (Automated Systems) exam. Candidates must be on the Westchester County Civil Service eligibility list, or currently hold, or have previously held permanent status in this position to apply. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under general direction, the incumbent provides support and functions as an Administrative Assistant in the Guidance Office. This individual is responsible for assisting in carrying out a wide array of administrative details pertaining to the operations of the Guidance Department. They perform a wide variety of administrative support involving a high degree of responsibility for public contact with school district personnel, as well as parents and guardians of the students. A limited amount of independent judgment is exercised within established District policies and procedures. Additionally, they provide related duties as required. RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Administration: Principal and Assistant Principal/s START DATE: August 2022 (Anticipated) SALARY: Competitive Salary and Benefits – Terms of employment are in accordance with the Peekskill Association of Educational Secretaries (PAES) contract CLOSING DATE: July 22, 2022 MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, equipment and business English;Knowledge of proper grammatical usage, punctuation and spelling;Familiarity with the capabilities of computer software applications to produce various document formats such as correspondence, reports, tables. charts and file storage;Ability to plan, organize and efficiently perform clerical functions; ability to manipulate a standard alphanumeric keyboard at rate of 35 words per minute;Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software to produce a variety of formats for correspondence, records, reports and maintenance of files;Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position;Ability to operate a variety of office machines;Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;Ability to deal effectively with the public;Key personal and professional attributes including, but not limited to, tact, courtesy, dependability, good judgment, and interpersonal skills that ensure effective team building;Attention to detail.
