COMMENTS:The Director of Instructional Technology plans, implements, directs, and maintains the district’s software applications. This position evaluates and provides guidance on what applications will complement classroom instruction and district goals. The Director of Instructional Technology designs and implements professional development opportunities for teachers and assists in integrating training for students into the curriculum. QUALIFICATIONS:Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, students, and teachers.Extensive knowledge or instructional software applications and how they can be integrated into curriculum across all grade levels (K-12).Expert in Microsoft Office 365 and how it can be utilized to support instruction for teachers and students.Understanding of Educational Law 2D and what requirements the District must adhere to in order to be compliant.Ability to design professional development opportunities for teachers and staff.Provides leadership and serves as a resource for district staff in the area of technology and helps facilitate effective integration of technology instruction.Search for new and innovative ways both to use technology meaningfully in instruction by visiting other innovative systems, meeting with vendors and consultants, evaluating new software and equipment, and meeting with principals and other educators and provide resources and support to teachers who are reluctant to use it in their classrooms.Facilitate professional development classes, and train instructional technology specialists to do the same.Excellent problem-solving skills.Experience with the onboarding process of software applications and how different applications integrate with each other.Knowledge of school information systems and how data from this system is utilized to populate software applications manually or through a platform such as Classlink. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides administrative supervision to instructional technology specialists and library media specialists.Responsible for designing and scheduling professional development opportunities for teachers and staff. These opportunities may take place during the school day, after hours, or during summer break.Coordinates with principals, directors and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction on methods to assist different types of learners.Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to stay current on emerging technologies as well as represent the district to external organizations and or individuals.Works with the administrator of technology on the development and implementation of the district’s technology plan.Works with the administrator of technology on technology purchases.Ensures that software applications meet Education Law 2D requirements and works with the administrator of technology and data privacy offer to verify compliance.Identifies, develops, and reports program related assessment results for the purpose of directing student and teacher growth toward technology integration, technology literacy, and technology use.Has a deep understanding of the Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards.Must be familiar with the setup and maintenance requirements of software applications.Administer the onboarding and day-to-day of instructional technology software applications.Focus on how to use technology to assist different types of learners, including advanced students, those with learning disabilities, or English as a Second Language students.Conduct needs assessments to inform the content and delivery of technology-related professional learning programs that positively impact student learning as part of new technology initiatives.Serves as liaison to software providers to convey and/or receive information and coordinating district activities.Collaborates with curriculum coordinators, teachers and school-based Coordinators of Research, Information, and Technology services on the development of instructional unit plans that address different learning needs of students and that integrate varied technology and information resources.Assists school-based Coordinators of Research, Information, and Technology Services in the development of an integrated library media system including identification, access, and integration of appropriate information resources, books and print materials, digital media, virtual field trips, and telecommunications.Recruits, selects, assigns, supervises, and evaluates staff as assigned.Supports school-based scheduling, collection development and ordering of materials.Participates in budget planning and implementation.Maintains an accurate department inventory and evaluates the requests made by schools and departments.Advocate for school and public librariesCollaborates with Patchogue-Medford Public Libraries and other outside agencies to share resources and promote initiatives that enhance the educational community.
