The Assistant Coordinator of Adult Education provides leadership, oversight, and coordination for all adult education programs within Orange-Ulster BOCES. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive adult education services that meet the diverse needs of adult learners, including Practical Nursing, basic education, high school equivalency preparation, English language learning, workforce development, and career readiness programs.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & ManagementPlan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive adult education programs and servicesOversee curriculum development and instructional design for adult learnersPartner with business leaders, industry associations, and community stakeholders to assess workforce demands and develop responsive educational pathways that align adult learner outcomes with high-demand career opportunitiesManage program budgets, resources, and facilities effectivelyEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing adult educationOversee and implement local and federal grant fundingStaff Supervision & DevelopmentRecruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate adult education instructors and support staffProvide professional development opportunities and ongoing training for staffFoster a collaborative and supportive work environmentSchedule classes as student enrollment and staffing changes occurAssist with the hiring and evaluation of all staffDevelops procedures to monitor teacher paperworkMonitor progress of students and take appropriate steps to ensure student successAssist with developing proposals for new and renewed programsMay function as person in charge of the overall program several evenings per week and on specific community eventsDevelop opportunities for program improvement and expansionContinuing Education for all programs operated by the Adult Education DivisionComplete reports as requestedStudent Services & SupportDevelop and implement student recruitment and retention strategiesOversee student assessment, placement, and progress monitoring systemsCoordinate support service connections including career counseling, academic advising, and transition planningMaintain accurate student records and reporting systemsPartnership & Community EngagementBuild and maintain partnerships with community organizations, employers, and social service agenciesCollaborate with workforce development boards and employment agenciesCoordinate with colleges and universities for seamless transitions and college agreementsRepresent the program at community events and meetingsPreparing advertising copy for news mediaAssist in preparing public relations releases and advertisement copyFunction as a speaker to community organizations and agenciesContribute to the planning and preparation of brochures and postersPrepare promotional and informational materials for special interest groupsWork and coordinate with community members to build public support for the program and create partnerships which will benefit studentsRequired QualificationsEducationMaster's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, and/or related fieldNYS SAS/SDA/SDL certification requiredPreferred ExperienceMinimum 3 years of experience in adult education, workforce development, or related leadership fieldMinimum 3 years of supervisory or administrative experienceDemonstrated experience with diverse adult learner populationsKnowledge & SkillsComprehensive understanding of adult learning principles and best practicesKnowledge of federal and state adult education regulations (WIOA, EPE, etc.)Proficiency interpreting data collection, analysis, and reportingStrong budget management and fiscal oversight capabilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with educational technology and student information systemsPreferred QualificationsExperience with grants managementKnowledge of career and technical education programsSalary and BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
