School CounselorPosition Summary The School Counselor at Oswego County P-TECH plays a critical role in supporting student success across academic, social-emotional, and career domains. Working in collaboration with the Principal, Assistant Principal, OCC Liaison, and teaching/support staff, the counselor fosters a culture of acceptance, academic rigor, and personal motivation.Academic CounselingConduct annual academic planning meetings with each student.Actively participate in the MTSS team; assist in progress monitoring and intervention strategies. Coordinate and facilitate parent-teacher conferences as needed.Monitor student progress via 5-week, quarterly, and annual report cards; recommend interventions as needed.Promote and support academic enrichment, including after-school tutoring programs.Collaborate in OCC intervention meetings regarding student withdrawal, course repetition, or exit plans.Complete 12th grade senior checklists; coordinate high school graduation participation and OCC continuation documentation with home districts.Social-Emotional CounselingProvide crisis counseling and short-term, solution-focused interventions.Facilitate group advising sessions during class time and lunch periods.Facilitate referrals and connections to external services (Farnham, OnPoint, Teen Health Educator, etc.).Assist students and families in accessing and beginning outside counseling services.Career CounselingConduct annual career pathway reviews with each student.Deliver 10th grade workshops focused on OCC readiness and determining technical program pathwaysScheduling & Program CoordinationAnnually revise and publish the P-TECH master schedule.Generate and distribute student schedules; process schedule changes throughout the year.QualificationsMaster’s degree in School Counseling or a related field requiredMust hold or be eligible for valid School Counselor certification as required by the state education department
