Position Summary: The Director of Literacy will oversee and lead the district’s PreK-12 literacy initiatives, ensuring the effective implementation of research-based literacy practices, professional learning sessions, and instructional programs that support all students. The Director will collaborate with building and district leaders, instructional staff, and community stakeholders to create a cohesive and comprehensive literacy plan aligned with district goals. This position requires strong leadership in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data-driven decision-making, with a particular focus on fostering equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of the district’s literacy curriculum for grades PreK-12.Provide ongoing professional learning sessions and coaching for teachers, specialists, and instructional leaders to enhance literacy instruction.Support the design and implementation of Tiered literacy interventions to meet the needs of struggling readers, ensuring equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction for all students.Collaborate with other leaders to ensure literacy efforts are integrated with other district initiatives and aligned with multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).Analyze student performance data to identify trends, guide instructional decisions, and inform program improvements, ensuring instruction meets the needs of all students.Drive student success through the development and implementation of a comprehensive literacy plan that prioritizes equity, using data to ensure that all students, particularly those from historically underserved groups, have access to high-quality instruction and interventions.Facilitate the alignment of literacy instruction with NYS learning standards and district goals.Develop and support interventions for struggling readers, ensuring that all students have access to the resources and support they need to achieve literacy proficiency.Work closely with instructional leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy programs, resources, and instructional practices.Serve as a literacy expert and resource for teachers, administrators, and families.Oversee and manage the literacy budget, including materials and resources procurement.Support the district in promoting literacy initiatives that engage families and the community.Collaborate with external partners, including vendors and professional organizations, to stay current on literacy research and practices.Ensure compliance with all state and federal literacy-related mandates and policies.Qualifications:Valid New York State Certification in Reading, Literacy, or equivalent.Master’s degree in Literacy, Reading, Education, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in literacy instruction or leadership, with a proven track record of improving student literacy outcomes.Extensive knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, curriculum design, and assessment strategies.Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.Experience in delivering professional development and coaching.Demonstrated commitment to equity and excellence in literacy education for all students.Prior experience in a PreK-12 school district leadership role.Experience with multilingual learners and designing literacy programs that meet diverse student needs.Familiarity with digital literacy resources and the integration of technology in literacy instruction.Salary: Commensurate with experience and district guidelines.This position offers a unique opportunity to impact the literacy achievement of students across the district and shape the district’s long-term literacy goals.Terms of Employment:This is a (12) twelve month position.Salary is commensurate in accordance with the Ossining Association of Administrators and Supervisors contract.
