DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the Director of Technology, an incumbent of this position assists and participates in the support, development and maintenance of the database applications for the school district. Depending upon the district, the incumbent may also provide support for the website applications. Incumbent provides administrative support of the student information system: will enter, edit and maintain data; assist admin and staff to utilize the features of the application programs. Ability to interact with administrators and teachers is an important aspect of the position. Supervision is not a requirement of the positions. Does related work as required.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)Collects, enters and reviews data collection and formatting procedures into the school district database systems and ensures it is operational and accurate;Experienced in comparing and merging data among multiple files or within multiple tabs of a spreadsheetCompiles and tabulates reports using automated systems to produce spreadsheets and graphsMaintains a help desk database and ensures that all application databases are on-line;Collects and maintains data based on student census, enrollment, and attendance to produce reports (on automated systems equipment) using collected data;Systematizes, enter and organizes data on student test results and prepares data for analysis, district studies and/or state reports in the information management system;Provides first level support for the Student Information System and maintains student, parent, teacher and staff accounts in the on-line virtual community program;Supports district users in accessing and retrieving data on-line; trains admission and staff to utilize features of the programs;Prepares correspondence and extracts data to produce reports for the Director, New York State, Superintendent, School Board, etc. related to all school information;Checks the proper filing of records and reports;Provides basic help desk support, such as answering the telephone and inquiries to end users, troubleshooting client/server database problems;May assist Director in preparation and maintenance of the annual budget;Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of automated spreadsheet and database programs; good knowledge of procedures used in compiling, tabulating and verifying basic statistical data; advanced knowledge of SQL a plus; Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills required; good knowledge of business English, office terminology, equipment and procedures; good knowledge of the capabilities of automated systems equipment to produce various formats, such as reports, tables, charts, and file storage; ability to manipulate data into different standard formats; ability to merge multiple datasets based on matching data keys; ability to perform simple arithmetic computations; ability to comprehend and maintain complex records and data files; ability to comprehend and carry out complex verbal and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate sufficiently in English to perform the essential duties of the position; ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, and database software, thoroughness; good judgement, dependability; tact; courtesy; initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either: a) Graduation form high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of work experience in which the primary function of the position was using automated spreadsheet and database programs; or (b) a Bachelor’s Degree* and one (1) year of work experience as described in (a); or © a Bachelor’s Degree* or Master’s Degree* in Computer Science, Information Technology, Analytics, Data Science or a closely related field.*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accredited agency by the U.S. Department of Education Department/U.S. Secretary of Education.
