COMPUTER SPECIALIST This position exists in the Oswego City School District. The work involves assisting in maintenance and operation of various, district owned, technology equipment. The employee in this position will also accommodate staff and students in the operation of computer hardware, software and other related peripherals. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this position. Completes other related work as required.Applicants must meet the the minimum requirements for the position as established by civil service. Permanent appointment will require qualification via the competitive civil service examination process. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Provide assistance to district personnel and students on a variety of hardware and software related issues; Assists with logging into computers; Explains new equipment or software to staff; Works with technicians to troubleshoot hardware, software and peripheral equipment problems; Relocates, installs and configures new hardware, peripheral equipment, and software systems; Transports technology equipment to install location and completes set up of such technology equipment; Provides helpdesk support, including repair of computer equipment etc. Diagnoses, maintains and updates assigned educational support systems; Acts as technical contact for software or hardware and related tasks; Periodically evaluates equipment requirements and analysis capability in relation to user department requests; Maintains inventory of any technology department equipment; Assists in labeling inventory and monitoring the location using district inventory system. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Summary of full performance level characteristics. Good knowledge in the operation, care and adjustment of a computer and related peripheral equipment; good knowledge of computer operating systems; working knowledge of network hardware such as network printers; working knowledge of data storage systems; ability to install and use purchased database management systems and utility software; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others; ability to follow complex oral and written instructions; ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, climb, balance, kneel, crouch and/or crawl, frequent stooping and finger dexterity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, specialized background, training and experience. Graduation from high school ANDThree (3) months of experience related duties of this position OR six (6) credit hours in the area of computer technology. Possession of a valid NYS Driver License and vehicle at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
