Position Title: Director of Physical Education/Health/AthleticsCertification: NYS School Administrator and District Administrator (SAS and SDA) or School Building Leader and School District Leader (SBL and SDL)Classification: Administrative - 12 monthsReports To: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction; Required Qualifications:Shall possess New York State School Administrator (SAS certification) & School District Administrator (SDA certification) OR School Building Leader and School District Leader (SDL) certification.Shall possess New York State certification in Physical EducationShall possess a minimum of three years of successful teaching experiencePossess the ability to utilize and appreciate the consensual decision-making process while not relinquishing their leadership roleDesirable QualificationsEducational training and experience, including teaching experience for both data-driven assessment and planning, and programs or activities that address the developmental and social needs of children.Knowledge and training in leadership and management functionsKnowledge and/or experience of Physical Education curriculum, Health curriculum, and Athletics.Ability to communicate well in writing and verbally with staff, parents and students, and the larger communityMaintains practices of lifelong learning, utilizing research-tested strategiesResponsible fiscal management techniquesKnowledge of and ability to apply education lawAdministrator Standards of GovernancePromotes the success of all students.Values, advocates and supports public education and all community members.Recognizes and respects the differences of perspective and style of all staff and community membersActs with dignity, treats everyone with civility and respect, and understands the implications of demeanor and behavior.Serves as a model for the value of lifelong learningAccepts leadership responsibility and accountability for implementing the vision, goals and policies of the district as an active team member. Instructional LeadershipThe Director works to enhance student achievement by helping the school community to challenge student performance goals. The implementation of curricula, instructional methods, assessment and planning practices that support those goals and are consistent with district priorities and outcomes.Knowledge of teaching and learning theory as it relates to Physical Education and HealthConsiders current research, state frameworks and other quality documents, district outcomes and community expectations, guiding and supporting continuous improvement in curriculum and instructionPromotes the use of a variety of instructional strategies to challenge all students appropriatelyMakes assessment data accessible to the school community and uses data to inform improvements in the instructional programApplies the principles of student growth and development to create and maintain a learning environment and educational program that focuses on the social, emotional, and physical success of each studentSupervises and evaluates Physical Education & Health staff and coachesConsistently applies standards when evaluating teacher performance; utilizes effective observation and evaluation skills 3. Establishes and supervises processes and practices consistent with the Strategic PlanParticipates in and contributes to professional development activities as part of the leadership teamMonitors the Physical Education/Athletic Director budget, expending and using funds aligned with district procedures and practicesManages the terms and conditions of employee unit contracts (OTA, ONTEA)Aligns curriculum and instructional practices, with the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional and Professional Personnel, toward the Strategic PlanMaintains effective record keeping practices for coaching and fiscal issuesHires coaches, referees, plans season and develops schedules with appropriate practicesActively participates as part of the district leadership team in committees and district assignments as requested by the Superintendent or Assistant SuperintendentPerforms other duties as assigned by the Superintendent 5.
