The Shared Business Official plays a pivotal role in providing financial leadership to our educational community. The Shared Business Official will provide proactive leadership to engage all department staff, districts, and other stakeholders in the financial and fiscal management processes. This includes helping to develop and implement strategic financial plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering transparent communication. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to optimize resource allocation, support budgetary planning, and drive financial initiatives that align with the educational goals and priorities of the districts. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Primary Responsibilities: Advise participating superintendents and district staff on issues related to the business office, transportation, operations and maintenance, and food service. Supervise and train district staff on issues related to the business office operations including payroll. Manage the creation, implementation and follow-through procedures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the district operations. Facilitate communication. Coordinate and submit state and federal reports. Coordination of the interim and year-end audits. Perform district-specific analysis of fund balance, reserves, expenditures and revenues. Assist member districts with annual budget development preparation. Act as a resource for the district clerks, treasurers and other administrative personnel. Attend component Board meetings as necessary. Attend School Business related conferences, seminars and workshops. All other duties assigned by the Superintendent. The Shared Business Official will possess the following minimum qualities, qualifications, skills, and/or abilities: Evidence of an open, collaborative leadership style that fosters a sense of teamwork and common purpose. A clear communicator in both oral and written language, including electronic communication. The Shared Business Official will be positive, approachable, and respectful of others and their time. Willingness to become an active, engaged, and visible member of the BOCES and district team. Unquestioned integrity, honesty, and diplomacy. Work collaboratively with other staff members, administrators, participating district staff, and Superintendents. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to bring together numerous parties to solve problems. Knowledge of fund accounting, public school finance, and business office operations. Knowledge of public-school state reporting, budgeting, grants, cash flows and investing. Demonstrates the ability to effectively develop, manage, and follow schedules to meet operational deadlines for member districts consistently. Ability to analyze data and research issues. Proficient in handling competing demands effectively.
