The Board of Education of the Brookfield Central School District invites highly qualified educational leaders to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools, with the successful candidate expected to assume the position on or about July 2026. The educational program of the Brookfield Central School District is rich in opportunities so that everyone may succeed. This is a fully confidential search for all applicants, from receipt of application through appointment to the superintendency. The Board is being assisted in the selection by Patricia N. Kilburn, Ed.D., District Superintendent of the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, who will work with the Board to screen applicants and make recommendations regarding candidates. The Board will make all decisions concerning the selection process, the evaluation of candidates, and the final appointment. The Brookfield Central School District is organized as one PK-12 building with approximately 200 pupils. The district is comprised of 54 staff, and operates with an annual budget of approximately $8.3 million. Small class sizes with one class per grade level supported by special area instructors in art, music, physical education, library, and special education enable students to have additional engaging learning opportunities in the classroom. The district provides a school breakfast and lunch program operated by the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES. The Brookfield CSD was featured in the NY Kids 20th Anniversary report case study of Promising Practices of Persistent & Emergent Positive Outliers in November 2024. High school students have the opportunity to take college courses through multiple instructional platforms, and many graduates pursue careers in the trades and armed services. A strong relationship with BOCES programs means that students enter and complete Career and Technical Education programs, including New Visions, every year. Brookfield is one of 23 schools in New York State to participate in the New York State Education Department’s Performance-Based Learning and Assessment (PLAN) network. The district is the focal point of a close-knit community located in central New York, 25 miles south of Utica, an hour east of Syracuse, and a half hour west of Cooperstown. Brookfield residents are employed in a wide spectrum of industries including farming, higher education, finance, manufacturing, construction, and healthcare. The district enjoys substantial community support demonstrated by high attendance at school musicals, interscholastic competitions, and award ceremonies. Recreational opportunities are virtually limitless, including the Brookfield Trail system, which offers 130 miles of horse and snowmobile trails traversing over 13,000 acres of state forest. The successful candidate will be a dynamic educational leader with vision, passion, and a broad range of experience encompassing Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. The Board values a candidate with a strong background in curriculum, instruction, and school finance who can effectively lead, communicate, and work cooperatively with school district personnel and the community. The candidate should be experienced in building community relations, working with others to establish trust, and actively listening to envision the future for Brookfield’s students and the District. The District seeks a leader who demonstrates honesty, integrity, and the ability to employ creative solutions to meet individual learning and programming needs. The candidate should hold or be eligible for New York State Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA). Salary is commensurate with experience, with the range starting at $150,000, plus an excellent benefits package. Interested candidates should submit all of the following application materials as a single PDF file via email by March 30, 2026: letter of interest, current resume, completed application form, college transcripts, copy of administrative certification (SDA/SDL), four confidential references and four confidential letters of reference.
