The Board of Education of the Sauquoit Valley Central School District invites interested, highly-qualified educators to submit applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The search process will be conducted over the next several months. The successful candidate should be available to assume the position on or about July 2023. The Board is being assisted in the selection by Patricia N. Kilburn, Ed.D., District Superintendent of the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, who will work with the Board to screen applicants and make recommendations regarding candidates. The Board will make all decisions concerning the selection process, the evaluation of candidates and the final appointment. The Sauquoit Valley Central School District is comprised of three schools -- an elementary (UPK-4), middle (5-8) and high school (9-12) – all located on one campus and enrolls approximately 911 students.The Sauquoit Valley Central School District is committed to increasing student achievement and providing all students the necessary skills to successfully complete in our ever-changing world. The District provides the opportunities, resources, and support to engage each student to maximize their abilities. Students engage in various strategies to promote their curiosity, interest, and passion for learning. The District provides meaningful opportunities for civic and democratic engagement; as well as, several co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to nurture the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical wellbeing of students.The District has approximately 162 faculty, staff and support personnel. The teaching staff is experienced and highly qualified at all levels, and instructional leadership is provided by the principals in each building.The Sauquoit Valley community strongly supports the school and its activities. As the center of the community, the District enjoys substantial community attendance at all of its events including musicals, interscholastic sports competitions, science fairs, graduation as well as other events.Spanning a rural area of just over 42 square miles, Sauquoit Valley Central School District is located in Central New York, six miles south of the city of Utica. The District includes portions of the towns and hamlets of Paris, New Hartford, Frankfort, Litchfield, Marshall, Kirkland and Bridgewater, and straddles Sauquoit Creek, a small Mohawk River tributary. The District’s current population is approximately 4,000 with its residents representing a wide range of educational and socioeconomic levels.The successful candidate will demonstrate honesty, integrity, trustworthiness and strength of character; be a skilled communicator who prioritizes transparency; possess a strong focus on community relations and visibility; have a strong background in curriculum and instruction; be skilled and knowledgeable in operations and business functions of the school District; demonstrate an ability to effectively lead, communicate and work cooperatively with school district personnel and the community; demonstrate fairness and open-mindedness; be dedicated to their work and committed to academic excellence and opportunities for all students; and possess New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader.
