The district follows all federal and New York State regulations and emphasizes providing support in the least restrictive environment, including inclusion whenever appropriate.What You'll Gain:Real-world training in a collaborative districtExperience with multidisciplinary teamsProfessional growth and preparation for certificationKey Features of Special Education ServicesRange of Programs: The district offers a variety of services, including consultant teacher services, resource room, integrated co-teaching, special classes, and related services such as speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, and behavioral support.Commitment to Inclusion: Whenever feasible, students with disabilities are educated alongside their peers in general education settings.Preschool Special Education: The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) oversees services for children ages 3–5, in coordination with Oneida County and NYSED.Collaboration With BOCES: Students have access to additional specialized programs through Madison–Oneida BOCES when district-based supports are not sufficientResponsibilitiesAssessment & Data-Based Decision MakingAssist in evaluating students’ academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs, as well as school and classroom factors that influence learning.Participate in conducting psychoeducational assessments aligned with referral questions and current professional guidelines.Administer and interpret assessment tools with attention to students’ cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and individual differences.Help identify environmental or instructional barriers that may be affecting student performance.Contribute to synthesizing assessment findings to support decisions about instructional planning, intervention needs, eligibility, and service recommendations.Student Support & InterventionProvide direct academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students under supervision.Teach and reinforce effective learning strategies, coping skills, and positive social behaviors.Offer short-term counseling to assist students with school adjustment and personal concerns.Participate in the MTSS process by helping collect and review progress-monitoring data, identifying students who may need Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 supports, and contributing to problem-solving discussions.Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement evidence-based interventions and adjust supports based on student response and ongoing data.Crisis Response & Safety SupportAssist in crisis response efforts as needed within the school setting.Serve as part of the district’s crisis response team when appropriate.Collaboration, Consultation & Team ParticipationSupport the development and review of IEP goals, behavior plans, and student support strategies.Attend team meetings, parent conferences, and planning sessions as appropriate.Work with school staff to identify social-emotional factors that may be impacting academic performance.Consult with outside agencies and professionals, including medical providers, mental health clinicians, child protective services, and legal representatives.Assist with prevention programming, wellness initiatives, and school-wide intervention efforts.Collaborate with university partners on district projects and initiatives.QualificationsActively enrolled in a graduate program leading to New York State School Psychologist Certification.Ability to travel within the community as needed (mileage reimbursement available with proper documentation).Experience or coursework related to culturally responsive practices preferred.Strong attendance record expected.Must successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check (fee required).Salary: $30,000-$40,000Location: Oneida City School District, Oneida, NY Start Date: 2026-2027 school yearWe’re looking for motivated interns who want to make a difference in students’ lives!
