BUILDINGS & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKERGeneral Statement of Duties:Perform a variety of tasks pertaining to the operation and maintenance of school buildings and grounds, athletic fields and equipment. Distinguishing Features of the Class:This is a semi-skilled position designed to support all Facilities endeavors, primarily supporting the Maintenance Mechanics, while individually contributing to the efficient and fluid operation of the academic environment. Duties will be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, who also oversees quality and performance of assigned tasks. Typical Work Activities:- Cares for school campuses grounds including mowing, raking, weed-eating, general landscaping;- Helps maintain athletic fields, including baseball, football, field hockey and soccer fields- Measure, layout and paint athletic fields, play and practice;- Assists in the removal of snow and ice, plus applying salt;- Operates and maintains grounds equipment, including mowers, snow blowers, leaf blowers, chain saws;- Set up and prepare for athletic and academic functions as directed;- Assist Maintenance Mechanics with a variety of Facilities related tasks including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, moving, painting (interior & exterior), special function set-ups;- Operate and maintain additional equipment including power washers, pole saw, power brooms, tractors, over-seeder, top-dresser, all-terrain vehicles, Toolcat utility vehicle;- Helps to maintain a clean and safe work environment following safe work practices and maintaining good housekeeping standards. Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:Good knowledge of grounds maintenance activities; working knowledge of Facilities operations and maintenance; Excellent mechanical aptitude pertaining to building components and equipment; Dependable; Proactive, enthusiastic; Maintain integrity; good physical condition. Minimum Qualifications: Either;One year experience in the maintenance of buildings and grounds or any activity bearing a reasonable relationship to the duties of this position; ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience.
