Sensitivity to local, state and federal regulation.Reports to: Executive Director of Special EducationJob Objective:To oversee all the duties and responsibilities of the chairing the Committee on SpecialEducation (CSE) and the Pre-school Committee on Special Education (CPSE)Terms of Employment:Ten months a year plus summer days as needed with salary and other terms and conditions of employment to be agreed upon with the Executive Director of Special Education and the Superintendent of Schools.Responsibilities:Handle the day to day function of the CSE/CPSEReview all referrals for appropriateness.Ensure that referrals are processed in a timely manner in accordance with standard procedure.Arrange CSE/CPSE agenda to ensure timely, effective meetingsChair meetings to facilitate group process so that all parties are heard and feel involved in the process.Strive for consensus at meetings but understand when to facilitate a decision that may not be popular but is always in the best interest of the child,Develop IEP’s that represent the needs of the child and the services to be provided.Prepare Board of Education recommendations based on CSE/CPSE decision.Arrange program/services for children within existing staffing.Communicate with principals/staff regarding recommendations for children.Recommend to the Executive Director of Special Education when programs /staffing increases are necessary.Discuss any out of district placement potential with Executive Director of Special Education as soon as possible.Observe children under CSE/CPSE during the school year to ensure the proper program/services are in place.Handle day to day parent/staff phone contact responsibility.Understand when to seek assistance and contact Executive Director of Special Education.Supervise day to day activity of the special education office.Perform any other duties as assigned.Manage day to day STAC for processing for CSE/ CPSE with clerical staff.Meet with building staff monthly in conjunction with Special Education administration.Learn and keep abreast of and maintain compliance with rules/regulations/guidelines regarding special education.Recommend changes in procedure to Executive Director of Special Education.Performs special assignments as needed.Apply on OLAS
