The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Facility Operations Assistant 1 position at the New York State School for the Deaf. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:Move and/or deliver furniture and other large pieces of equipment;Maintain the school’s grounds, including lawns, athletic fields, shrubs, flowerbeds, and trees;Maintain the school’s roadways, walkways and parking areas, which will include snow removal, ice control, patching, leveling and painting, and performing minor maintenance on equipment used;Assist the journey-level trades personnel;Work independently on tasks assigned including minor plumbing, heating, electrical, and carpentry projects;Maintain inventories and provide requests for materials and equipment in a timely manner; andSet up and take down equipment for facility events as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position, including the ability to perform activities requiring medium to heavy lifting, and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of a valid New York State driver’s license will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Candidates are required to possess a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 is dependent upon maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license. Failure to maintain a valid New York State driver’s license will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant’s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The hours for this position will be Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm. This position leads to a maximum salary of $43,521 based on annual performance advances.
