The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Trades Generalist position in the New York State School for the Deaf (NYSSD). Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform a variety of carpentry-related duties including, but not limited to, installing and repairing flooring, repairing and adjusting doors, hardware, stairs, and railings, and replacing ceiling tile;Perform journeyman locksmith-related tasks including, but not limited to, repairing and installing of lock sets and key cores of various types, maintaining inventory of door hardware and keys, and cutting and issuing keys; Perform electrical duties including, but not limited to, replacing receptacles, light fixtures, and circuit breakers;Repair, install and maintain swimming pool, plumbing fixtures, and appliances, including, but not limited to, sinks, showers, baths, commodes, dishwashers, domestic water, and drainage distribution systems; Perform a variety of painting-related duties including, but not limited to, preparing surfaces, priming, and painting;Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, bathroom exhaust fans, clothes dryers, sump pumps and generators, HVAC equipment; andPerform additional duties, as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Trades Generalist. Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidate must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This will be a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Candidates are required to possess a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Trades Generalist is dependent upon maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license. Failure to maintain valid New York State driver’s license could result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant’s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday (7:00am– 3:30pm), and include a half hour un-paid lunch period. This position leads to a maximum salary of $58,016 based on annual performance advances.
